Crush Depth is a debuff inflicted by most Abyss enemies and weapons, as well as the Depth Crusher and its upgrades, the Abyss Blade and Neptune's Bounty. It is also inflicted by any type of Biome Blade while the player is in the Ocean. If inflicted on an enemy, they lose 30 health per second in Pre-Hardmode, and 200 health per second in Hardmode. If inflicted on the player, they instead lose 9 health per second. If the player has the Depths Charm equipped, they will only lose 4.5 health per second.
Additionally, if a player is inflicted with Crush Depth while in the Abyss, their breath meter will drain more quickly.
Crush Depth has its damage reduced by the amount of defense its target has. For the player, 5% of their defense (rounded down to the nearest integer) is subtracted from the health lost per second. For enemies, 500% of their defense is subtracted from the health lost per second.

- Although the debuff does more damage to targets with lower defense, players with 0 defense take no damage from Crush Depth.
- NPCs that have more than 12 and 80 defense don't take any damage from Depth Crush in Pre-Hardmode and Hardmode respectively, but still emit blue particles from the debuff.
- While in the Abyss, Crush Depth causes afflicted enemies to lose 750 health per second. This does not apply to bosses or enemies with 0 contact damage.
- However, all enemies that spawn naturally in the Abyss are immune to Crush Depth.
