Damage Reduction Boosts[edit | edit source]

Damage Reduction (DR) is a stat that decreases damage based on percentage. Each percentage point is additive, incrementing a total value that the damage then gets decreased by. The Calamity Mod adjusts the effective percentage of this stat with a diminishing scale. Refer to the Vanilla changes section for more details.

Separate Damage Reduction Boosts[edit | edit source]

These boosts directly modify damage taken and are not an additive stat like normal DR - they are multiplicative instead. They are calculated independently to normal DR as well as each other, and are not affected by Calamity's DR scaling.

Armor Penetration[edit | edit source]

Armor penetration is a statistic that reduces the defense of the player's targets. For instance, a Purple Slime normally has 6 defense. If the player has 5 Armor penetration, then the slime will be taken to have 1 defense instead.

Defense Reduction[edit | edit source]

Several weapons can permanently lower an enemy's defense if it does not change again.

Vanilla changes[edit | edit source]

Defensive accessory modifiers now also increase damage reduction and gain more defense in Hardmode and Post-Moon Lord,with rarer defense modifiers granting a larger bonus.

  • Hard provides 0.25% damage reduction; and increases 2 defense in Hardmode and 3 defense in Post-Moon Lord instead of 1.
  • Guarding provides 0.5% damage reduction; and increases 3 defense in Hardmode and 4 defense in Post-Moon Lord instead of 2.
  • Armored provides 0.75% damage reduction; and increases 4 defense in Hardmode and 6 defense in Post-Moon Lord instead of 3.
  • Warding provides 1% damage reduction; and increases 6 defense in Hardmode and 8 defense in Post-Moon Lord instead of 4.

Player damage reduction now scales diminishingly, with each additional percentage point being less effective than the one before it. All DR reducing effects (such as Ichor or Cursed Inferno) are calculated after it has been scaled.

  • The scaling formula is: 1 - 1(1 + dr)

Several items had their defense and damage reduction values changed.

  • The Worm Scarf now only provides 10% damage reduction instead of 17%.
  • The Ice Barrier buff now only provides 15% damage reduction instead of 25%.
  • A full set of Gladiator armor now provides 21 defense instead of 7.
  • A full set of Obsidian armor now provides 19 defense instead of 16.
  • The defense of the Hallowed Plate Mail now provides 18 defense and the Hallowed Greaves now provide 13 defense.
  • The damage reduction of Beetle armor is reduced to 10% per beetle instead of 15%.
  • A full set of Solar Flare armor now provides 94 defense instead of 78.
