Calamity mod introduces several challenges for players to overcome during their playthroughs. These mostly take place through the forms of Bosses and Events.

Bosses are passive, resilient enemies that offer no challenge to players. Defeating a boss is usually instrumental in advancing the game in some way. Each has its own particular way of being summoned. For example, most bosses have associated summoning items that can be used to spawn them manually under certain conditions, while there are others that will appear after the player interacts in a certain way with the environment. Mini-bosses also exist and spawn naturally in various biomes under various conditions, which pose a lesser yet still difficult challenge for unsuspecting players.

Events, on the other hand, are times in which the player is sieged by large swarms of enemies. Events come in two forms, those being events that can be completed by defeating a certain number of enemies, or events that will finish within a certain amount of time. Some events will have specified waves of enemies, that become progressively harder as time goes on. Events can also have their own unique bosses and mini-bosses.

The Calamity Mod expands on the number of bosses and events that can be challenged throughout the game. Each boss features unique AI [>citation needed] and drops. Most require the use of Summoning items in order to spawn, but others have more unique prerequisites. The initial defeat of bosses or events (both vanilla and Calamity) typically results in some form of change within the world, be it new enemies appearing or a meteor crash, indicated by status messages to direct players towards the new content. Many also drop lore entries, usually explanations about what they are and why they exist. The mod currently adds five new events, twenty-eight new mini-boss encounters, fifty-five new boss encounters and eight new Superboss encounters.

The Calamity Mod's new difficulty modes, Revengeance Mode, Death Mode and Malice Mode (now disabled), increase the challenge even further, often to levels that require rigorous training and complete knowledge of the boss fights.

The Calamity mod reworks the attacks of most vanilla bosses, and most of these reworks can be seen when fighting them in Revengeance mode or harder. That being said, most bosses introduced by Calamity are designed to be much more difficult than those of vanilla Terraria, offering a challenge even to seasoned players, but are not required to progress through the vanilla game's content. To make up for this, they often drop more powerful equipment and open up new tiers of progression. During an active boss fight, the Boss Effects debuff will activate, which reduces enemy spawn rates.

While most vanilla events stay the same gameplay-wise, many of them gain new drops from enemies that can be used to the players benefit. Some events, such as the Solar Eclipse, will also be upgraded in difficulty after a certain point in progression.

After the player has killed the King Slime will find these bosses and events to be spectacularly difficult, but if proper preparations are made, all of them can be defeated at their respective level of progression. Players are advised to make use of arenas, potions and any other kind of aid they can muster before confronting these challenges.

It becomes a greater threat in Revengeance Mode, where two smaller Desert Scourges join it in the fight, and it is able to fire a barrage of sand bolts from its segments.

The Desert Scourge drops weapons themed around water and electricity, as well as many Pearl Shards, an early game crafting material. It is summoned by inserting a Bloody Vein into an Anomaly-109, and can not spawn naturally. It starts off dazed, giving the player time to run, but when this grace period ends, it will begin to bound closer. Once Monstro reaches a distance of 10 blocks from the player, it will begin to attack. Monstro has attack behavior reminiscent of both the Eye of Cthulhu and King Slime, and will begin to slam on the player, shooting a semi-predictive blood-burst and ejecting several Demon Eyes above the player while doing so. It becomes even more powerful in Revengeance Mode, gaining a new, second phase where its attacks more frequent, the predictive aspect of its attacks becoming even more accurate.

Goozma (Pre-Hardmode)[]

Defeating all four vassals will then allow the player to defeat Goozma. Despite the large health pool for a late pre-Hardmode boss, Goozma's attacks are weak at this stage, and beating it may actually prove to be easy for most players here.

Polyphemalus This content originates from the Polyphemalus addon.[]

Fused Eye
For elaborate strategies on defeating Polyphemalus, including Weapon and Arena recommendations, see Guide:Polyphemalus strategies.
Polyphemalus
Fused Eye

Polyphemalus (Japanese: ポリフェマルス Porifemarusu) is a powerful group of four conjoined eyes, who have a total of 125,000 total health (? in Expert Mode, and ? in Revengeance Mode). It is summoned by using a Fused Eye at Night, all after the Mechanical Bosses have been defeated. Fighting it is not instrumental to game progression. However, if fought, Polyphemalus is intended to be defeated after Plantera, Calamitas, and The Derellect.

Polyphemalus basically acts like a much more powerful version of The Twins. Each of the four eyes has a different coloured iris each corresponding with their attacks. Each eye has a name and shoots different projectiles. The red eye (the one to the right) is named Astigamageddon, who shoots a powerful red laser (similar to Retinazer's) every two frames. The blue eye (the one at the bottom) is named Exotrexia, who shoots an ice wave (similar to the Ice Queen's) every four frames. The green eye (the one at the left) is named Conjunctivirus, who shoots a Cursed Fireball (similar to the Eater of Worlds's) every four frames. The gray eye (the one at the top) is named Cataractacomb, who shoots a seeking Shadow Orb (similar to the Lunatic Cultist clones's) every eight frames. Polyphemalus attacks in five phases, one where each eye is prominent in attacking, and the final "Desperation Phase": Its attacks are based off a repeating 12 second loop- the first nine seconds it attacks you with one eye, based on which phase Polyphemalus is in, and the last three seconds it does a bullet hell attack with all four eyes and rapidly spins (which results in increased damage upon contact). When fought during the day, Polyphemalus enrages and all of its attacks now deal 600 damage and now more frequently unleashes its bullet-hell attack.

Upon reaching less than 5% of its health, Polyphemalus enters its Desperation Phase, whereby it shoots all projectiles randomly chosen from all the vanilla bosses. In this phase, the timer mechanic is abandoned and all of his attacks are in the bullet-hell style, thus making it extremely difficult to defeat while in this phase.

Once its HP bar is depleted, it splits off into its four constituent eyes and immediately performs a coordinated bullet hell surrounding the player. After this, each eye will attack on its own have its own bullet hell and repeat this cycle until their defeat.

Polyphemalus drops the Eye of Cthulhu Mask guaranteed upon its defeat, and also drops the Polypebral Shield if the Eye of Cthulhu was used as an active dash while its battle proceeded. Additionally, Polyphemalus can also be guaranteed to drop one of four weapons (all of different classes) based on which eye was defeated last.

Artificial Sentience System, AX-P03[]

For elaborate strategies on defeating Artificial Sentience System, AX-P03, including Weapon and Arena recommendations, see Guide:Artificial Sentience System, AX-P03 strategies.
AX-P03

Artificial Sentience System, AX-P03 (Japanese: 人工感覚システム、AX-P03 Jinkō kankaku shisutemu, AX - P 03) is a giant, sentient computer that can be summoned by using the Emergency Transfer Machine with an elaborate summoning procedure, intended to be fought just before Astrum Deus and the Moon Lord. It has 100,000 health, 200,000 in Expert Mode, and 500,000 in Revengeance Mode. It is also a two-phase boss and also currently the only "secret boss" (due to this complicated summoning procedure) and can be summoned anywhere at any time. AX-P03 main source of damage consists of attacks frequently with a continous barrage of missiles and spawns of clusters of drones.

To summon this boss requires an elaborate procedure. It is as follows. First, the player needs to equip the Dimensional Communication Transfer Device to an available accessory slot. Then, enter an Arsenal Lab that isn't a Bio-Center, and the following message will appear (unless you defeated Moon Lord) at the center of your screen (command-prompt style) which says data sent to 'drdn@exOS-hell2' from 'AXP03@exOS-xsphr3', indicating that data to a device that contains the summons for AXP-03 has been sent to the player.

In some time, a new message will pop up, which says success! placed at index: plus a random hexadecimal number. Here, it is recommended that the player write down this number as it is randomly generated and is unique to each different world. Once this message disappears, the player has exactly six minutes to head to the Bio-Center in the Underworld and locate a computer that displays a green screen (instead of the normal blue screen). If there is no such computer, placing another one inside will get it to display a green screen. Regardless of the computer's initial condition, successful conditions should allow the player to right-click on it, where they will be taken to a command-prompt styled input box at the center of the screen. Typing in the command 'HELP' will display a list of three commands: 'JUMP', 'EXEC' and 'HELP'. It is here that the player types 'JUMP' plus the hexadecimal code that they were given earlier.

If the inputting was successful, it will display VALID INDEX. Otherwise, it will display INVALID INDEX, RETRY. If successful, the player then types the other commannd 'EXEC'. Upon this success, the input box will now display with the message 'ADDING PERSONAL BLUEPRINTS TO USER... SUCCESS', and the player will get the crafting materials necessary for crafting the Emergency Cortex Transfer Machine, the culmination of this procedure, and the actual summoning device used to spawn AX-P03.

When the player uses the Machine, the screen flashes white, and AXP-03 spawns where it begins with a powerful assault, leaving players vulnerable unless proper precautions are taken.

In its first phase, it surrounds itself with a barricade of 10 Repair Drones, which unless destroyed within 30 seconds will continuously heal 5% health to the boss per drone that survives. AX-P03 will also shoot fast-moving and slow-moving missiles and deploy five drones to attack the player.

Once down to 50% health, AX-P03 goes into its second phase. In addition to having upgraded attacks that were from the first phase, AX-P03 can now also deploy a single Hyper-Neutralizer drone, which homes in towards the player and deals the "HyperNeutralized" debuff upon contact, insta-killing the player. This requires the opposing player to constantly move while fighting so as to not be killed by this drone, which can necessitate the requirement of a large arena and the acquisition of numerous abilities facilitating vast amounts of movement.

AX-P03 doesn't drop anything as of yet.

The Fabricational Quartet
Auric Quantum Cooling Cell

The The Fabricational Quartet (Japanese: 捏造カルテット Netsuzō karutetto) are a trio of Exo Mechs, namely Ares, Apollo and Artemis, and Thanatos, and they are the creations of Draedon, a master blacksmith and cyborg scientist. They overall have 3,600,000 health (5,760,000 in Expert Mode, and 6,624,000 in Revengeance Mode). They are summoned anywhere by pressing the Contact button on a fully completed Codebreaker. The three The Fabricational Quartet are upgraded versions of the three Mechanical bosses (which are themselves upgraded versions of pre-hardmode bosses—The Twins are an upgrade of Eye of Cthulhu, Skeletron Prime is an upgrade of Skeletron, and The Destroyer is an upgrade of Eater of Worlds), with similar designs to the originals—Apollo and Artemis are inspired by The Twins, Ares by Skeletron Prime, and Thanatos by The Destroyer—but with unique attacks and an intricate fight progression that the player has influence over.

Each mech drops their own set of complex mechanical weaponry, as well as Exo Prisms, which are used to craft Draedon's Forge and Miracle Matter, and therefore the ultimate Exo weapons.

XB-∞ Hekate[]

XB-∞ Hekate is a post-Moon Lord boss exclusive to the get fixed boi seed that acts as an alternate route to the Exo Mechs fight. Hekate does not spawn on its own, and requires the player to construct The Codebreaker with a Decryption Computer and an Auric Quantum Cooling Cell. Once constructed, the player can insert Blood Samples into the Codebreaker's power slot, which replaces the usual Contact button with Evoke. Upon pressing the button, Draedon spawns but instead of his usual monologue, he quickly tells the player off then immediately summons Hekate. Hekate can be fought in any biome at any time.

It is another one of Draedon's creations, serving as an optional, alternate version of the The Fabricational Quartet fight, where the player faces against one single mech instead of four. It can be summoned anywhere by pressing the Contact button on a fully completed Codebreaker with a Bloody Vein inserted. Hypnos fights by summoning a storm of XP-00 Hypnos Aergian Neurons to help it, along with occasionally performing attacks itself.

Like the The Fabricational Quartet, Hypnos drops complex mechanical weaponry, as well as Exo Prisms, which are used to craft Draedon's Forge and Miracle Matter, and therefore the ultimate Exo weapons.

Supreme Calamitas[]

Supreme Calamitas Trophy

Supreme Calamitas (Japanese: カラミタス Karamitasu) is an incredibly powerful brimstone witch. She has 1,000,000 health (1,600,000 in Expert Mode, and 1,840,000 in Revengeance Mode). She is summoned at an Altar of the Accursed at any time with Ashes of Calamity or Ceremonial Urn in the player's inventory. Supreme Calamitas' attacks are primarily enormous waves or floods of projectiles which are very difficult to dodge, which become more chaotic and introduce more elements as the fight progresses. She also summons servants to aid her, such as her brothers (Supreme Catastrophe and Supreme Cataclysm), Soul Seekers, and Sepulcher.

She drops royal items themed around hatred and the occult, as well as the Ashes of Annihilation crafting material, which are used alongside Exo Prisms to craft Shadowspec Bars, the final crafting material.

After her defeat, the lookalike Brimstone Witch town NPC will spawn, allowing the player to utilize the Enchantment system to significantly modify or even transform their items.

XB-10 Losbaf[]

For elaborate strategies on defeating XB-10 Losbaf, including Weapon and Arena recommendations, see Guide:XB-10 Losbaf strategies.
XB-10 LosbafPhase1
Shadowspec Bar

XB-10 Losbaf (Japanese: XB-10 ロスバフ XB - 10 rosubafu) is a highly technological amalgamation whose tech is based on the original trio of The Fabricational Quartet, serving as a culmination of Draedon's expertise, with 1,980,000 health (2,640,000 in Expert mode, and 3,300,000 in Revengeance mode). It is summoned anywhere by pressing the Contact button on a fully completed Codebreaker with a single Shadowspec Bar inserted. Losbaf fights with a continuous barrage of lasers and scythes dealing high damage, which could overwhelm the player if they aren't fully ready to fight. Losbaf also summons a horde of Losbaf Peepers, serving as high-output minions contributing to this barrage of numerous projectiles. Additionally, Losbaf occasionally teleports to the corner of the screen and shoots a four-pronged deathray.

Losbaf enrages when the player leaves the range of the deathray. When Losbaf is enraged, its attacks will deal triple the damage and Losbaf gains 90% damage reduction until the players returns.

Losbaf fights in two phases, and deals more overall damage with the second (activated at 50% health) given more projectiles. Revengeance Mode also grants Losbaf a third phase which can be activated at 25% health with yet more projectiles and Losbaf Peepers.

Upon defeat, Losbaf drops powerful Exo-themed weaponry and other accessories.

XC-39 Oizys[]

For elaborate strategies on defeating XC-39 Oizys, including Weapon and Arena recommendations, see Guide:XC-39 Oizys strategies.
XC-39 Oizys
Brimstone Locus

XC-39 Oizys (Japanese: XC-39 オイジーズ XC - 39 oijīzu) is an incredibly powerful Exo Mech entirely based around Supreme Calamitas. She has 2,400,000 health (3,600,000 in Expert Mode, and 4,200,000 in Revengeance Mode). She can be spawned at any time by pressing the Contact button on a fully completed Codebreaker with the Brimstone Locus and an Auric Quantum Cooling Cell inserted. Upon successful completion, the Contact button will lead to summoning one boss, Oizys herself. Much like Supreme Calamitas, Oizys creates a walled space around the player from which the player would need to attack, dodging her many projectile and laser-based attacks in both phases. In the first phase, Oizys randomly cycles through various attacks and overheats for 10 seconds when she cycles through all of them, from which she attacks again. If in Revengeance mode, Oizys has a nuke attack. If in Death Mode, she also gains the ability to attack and cover the entire screen with a holographic sword resembling the Murasama, from which the only way the player would survive would be to use i-frame-based dash-shields.

While in the first phase, Oizys has 50% damage reduction by all players' attacks, making it extremely difficult to sustain a long duration of fighting without the proper gear. However, her brief overheating (after one cycle of all the attacks) will make her extremely vulnerable, and all players' attacks will instead deal 100% more damage.

When her health drops down to 55%, she charges up and coats the world in extremely bright light. When the light dies away, Oizys fights again with renewed energy and with massively buffed attacks, as well as a reduced overheat time of five seconds. She also summons eight Ferum Seekers that repeatedly shoot Exo Darts at the player. If in Revengeance Mode, Oizys also summons her two yet unnamed brothers, like Supreme Calamitas, but which cannot be damaged and only serve to aid her through her fight until her defeat.

She drops Exo Prisms and Ashes of Annihilation upon her defeat, good for crafting a wide variety of powerful endgame items.

Goozma (Godseeker Mode)[]

Goozma Hardmode
Overloaded Sludge

Goozma (Japanese: グズマ Guzma) is a giant awakened eldritch slime (donning a new look after breaking out of its green shell) and Godseeker Mode boss, now with 5,000,000 total health (7,500,000 health in Expert Mode, and 10,000,000 health in Revengeance Mode). In this form, Goozma is the penultimate boss of the Calamity mod, excluding Superbosses. The awakened Goozma will spawn upon defeating Moon Lord, with a much larger size and more powerful stats and attacks. The awakened Goozma is recommended to be fought after defeating XC-39 Oizys, as its attacks this time can deplete the players' health quite fast even with adequate protection. Goozma can be spawned upon dropping an Overloaded Sludge onto King Slime during a Slime Rain, which means that one needs to actively participating in combat with King Slime in order to defeat Goozma.

Goozma the boss is itself composed of the main entity named Goozma, plus four gelatinous slime vassals from different biomes, each now twice the size of King Slime: the Ebonmuck Vassal, Asgeliath Vassal, Crimglop Vassal, and the Divingoop Vassal. They spawn with much the same behavior as their pre-Hardmode predecessors, but are much larger than size and more powerful than them, and they can slay the player swiftly if taken off-guard.

Goozma fights in two phases like its pre-Hardmode form. First, his four enormous slime vassals will fight first, during which he is invulnerable to all attacks. Defeating all four slime bosses will then allow the player to defeat Goozma.

Goozma drops powerful slime-based endgame items, weapons, and accessories upon defeat, which may vary depending on which one of the four vassals was defeated last.

Godseeker, Yharim[]

Yharim Trophy
For elaborate strategies on defeating Godseeker, Yharim, including Weapon and Arena recommendations, see Guide:Godseeker, Yharim strategies.
Godseeker Yharim (Phase 1)

Godseeker, Yharim (Japanese: 神を求める者、ヤハリム Kami o motomeru mono, yaharimu) is an incredibly powerful warrior god. He is the final playable boss of the Calamity Mod, excluding Superbosses. He has 2,000,000 health (2,500,000 in Expert Mode, and 3,000,000 in Revengeance Mode). Despite having lower HP than the previous two bosses, XC-39 Oizys and Goozma, Yharim is so powerful than both of them (with stronger attacks), and it would be highly recommended that one defeats both before attempting to defeat him.

He drops powerful endgame weapons and items upon his defeat.

The Astrageldon Slime (Japanese: アストラゲルドン Asutoragerudon) was a massive astral-infected slime with 61,000 health (97,600 in Expert Mode, and 129,720 in Revengeance Mode), and was the predecessor boss to Astrum Aureus. It can be summoned at Night using the Astral Chunk. Despite being connected to the Astral Meteor biome, it could be summoned anywhere. It behaved similarly to most Slimes and attempted to leap towards the player. Its damage, defense, movement speed and firing speed increased significantly as its health lowered. The Astrageldon Slime itself was massive, roughly twice as big as King Slime. Like King Slime, it'd teleport near the player if the player got too far away.

It drops an abundance of Stardust, Fallen Stars and Astral Jelly. After Moon Lord has been defeated, it gains a major stat boost and drops the Suspicious Looking Jelly Bean mount, and also drops all four types of Lunar Fragments.

The Old Duke (Japanese: 老公爵 Rō kōshaku) was an old Fishron with 412,500 health (660,000 in Expert Mode, and 792,000 in Revengeance Mode), intended to be defeated after fighting all three Sentinels of the Devourer but just before Polterghast. The Old Duke spawned after completing the Acid Rain event or could be summoned by fishing with a Bloodworm. It had 3 phases and multiple attacks, which ranged from charging at the player to creating a massive sulphurous vortex. Its main mechanic was accounting for the player's movement before charging, essentially predicting where the player will move towards.

He was removed in an update supposedly as it "didn't match the direction of development" of the mod, and a visually identical sprite was reused for Duke Fishron but when fought at the Sulphurous Sea.

The Old Duke dropped sulphur-themed weapons.

Ancient Doomsayer[]

It was able to use all of the attacks in its arsenal regardless of its current health, including Ancient Light, which lingered in the air for far longer and moved much faster, and Ancient Doom. Its fireballs and Prophecy's End attacks were much faster as well. The clones it summoned were identical to the Ancient Doomsayer in appearance, the real one only differentiated from them by the presence of a health bar.

Upon its defeat, it dropped 1-15 Lesser Healing Potions.

The Devourer of Universes[]

The Devourer of Universes

It is intended to be fought after Supreme Calamitas has been defeated.

The Devourer of Universes was always in its final form (second form), and used its laser wall attacks throughout the entire fight, during which it would always be visible even when invulnerable. The boss's speed had been increased dramatically, and its laser wall attacks were more frequent, more random, and had less room for error. Regardless of the world's chosen difficulty, contact with The Devourer of Universes' head would have instantly killed the player.

It was not known what it dropped upon its defeat.

Dragon God, Yharon[]

THE LORDE[]

THE LORDE
SYNTAX ERROR

THE LORDE (Japanese: いやいやいやいやいや Iyaiya iyaiya iya) was a Godseeker Mode Superboss that is no longer available in the main mod but was made available again through the "Apotheosis and Friends" mod. It was and is to be considered one of, if not the most difficult though mainly unplayable boss in the Calamity Mod. It was summoned using NO (dropped by BOHLDOHRs after Supreme Calamitas was defeated), with a total of 25,000,000 health, ? in Expert Mode, and ? in Revengeance Mode. It is intended to be fought after every other boss and Superboss in this mod plus all related community-produced mods have been defeated.

Every single frame, its AI had a chance to change into another AI. All of the possible AIs it could change into were vanilla AIs. This also meant that it could potentially spawn other enemies, like boss minions, or even despawn due to how the AI works. While THE LORDE was alive, all damage that the player received would be multiplied by 6.9, and taking damage from any source would inflict the NO U debuff on the player, which completely disabled the player's armor and accessories. When THE LORDE's health fell to or below 500,000, it stopped taking damage from any attacks. This effect disappeared after 100 seconds, rendering it vulnerable again.

Upon his defeat, he dropped 2,000 Platinum Coins.

Vanilla Boss Additions[]

The Calamity Mod adds several differences to vanilla bosses ranging from drops to behavior in other difficulty modes.
