The Murasama in use.
Not to be confused with Muramasa, a vanilla broadsword.

The Murasama is a post-Moon Lord sword with an attack similar to that of the Arkhalis. It can be found in The Underworld Shrine, which often generates isolated from other structures and at the very bottom of the world. Although Murasama is technically attainable in Pre-Hardmode, it cannot be swung until Jungle Dragon, Yharon has been defeated in the current world.

While being swung, red blurred slashes will appear in the direction of the mouse, creating an illusion that the sword itself is being swung very quickly. Any enemies that are hit by the slashes will take damage. The Murasama deals damage extremely quickly and has a significantly larger range than the Arkhalis.

Its best modifier is Godly. Ruthless may be preferable versus high defense targets or if the player already has 100% critical strike chance.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Murasama is one of several references to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the others being Red Sun, Excelsus and Revengeance Mode alongside other minor references. Murasama is carried by one of the game's main antagonists, Jetstream Sam.
    • The fast, blurred cutting animation that the item uses is based on the blurring visuals shown when the player or Sam uses the sword.
      • The fact the weapon is "ID locked" is also a reference to Sam, for the inability of using his weapon immediately after defeating him, unlike the other bosses in Metal Gear Rising.
        • The sword can be used at any point before defeating Yharon if the character's name is "Sam" or "Samuel Rodrigues".
    • The weapon's tooltip, "There will be blood!", is a reference to the lyrics of "The Only Thing I Know For Real", which is Sam's boss theme.
  • Its name is a play on Muramasa, a famous Japanese swordsmith, and the Japanese honorific "-sama," which is used to refer to an older or wiser person with respect.
  • Prior to generating in Underworld Shrines, Murasama was a Revengeance-exclusive weapon dropped by The Devourer of Gods.
