Proficiency

From Calamity Mod Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Proficiency is a new game mechanic added by the Calamity Mod. It is a series of 5 attributes, one for each damage type, that scale with the player as they progress through the game. When the player deals damage of a certain type, their proficiency with that type increases. Once they hit certain amounts of proficiency, they will level up and gain several small buffs, which vary depending on the type of proficiency.

Each proficiency is represented by a number between 0 and 12500. Any time a player deals more than 5 damage to a non statue-spawned enemy, or any amount of damage to a boss, that number is increased by 1. There is a 2 second cooldown between increases of any proficiency, though this can be lengthened further if the player tries to increase past one of two soft-caps.

The player can view their current proficiency and level by buying one of the Level Meters from the Goblin Tinkerer. Having a Level Meter equipped will also give a small chance to double the amount of proficiency gained.

Levels and Boosts[edit | edit source]

Each type of proficiency will grant boosts to different stats. The boosts listed below are not cumulative, i.e. they represent the boosts gained from being at that level, rather than adding to the prior boosts.

  • Melee: Melee Damage, Melee Crit Chance, Melee Speed
  • Ranged: Ranged Damage, Ranged Crit Chance, Movement Speed
  • Mage: Magic Damage, Magic Crit Chance, Mana Cost Reduction
  • Summon: Minion Damage, Minion Knockback, Minion Slots
  • Rogue: Rogue Damage, Rogue Crit Chance, Projectile Speed

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • There are two soft-caps for proficiency gaining:
    • If the player tries to increase proficiency above 1500 (Level 5) while not in Hardmode, the proficiency cooldown is increased to 20 seconds.
    • If the player tries to increase proficiency above 5500 (Level 10) before defeating the Moon Lord, the proficiency cooldown is increased to 40 seconds.
  • Proficiency levels will transfer between worlds when playing on the same character, allowing for the player to level up across multiple worlds.
  • If the player has a Level Meter equipped, the respective proficiency has a 10% chance to increase by 2 instead of 1, but only if the current proficiency amount is not divisible by 100.
  • Super Dummies and Target Dummies will not count towards the player gaining proficiency.
  • When the player levels up, a random firework will be shot out from them and a status message will appear in chat. A different status message will appear if the player reaches the maximum level.
  • There is no proficiency for Throwing weapons nor Classless weapons.
