The Perforators are a group of Pre-Hardmode bosses fought in the Crimson. They consist of 3 worms with varying appearances and sizes, and a crimson, fleshy hive.

They are the Crimson counterpart to The Hive Mind.

Spawn[edit | edit source]

The Perforators do not spawn on their own. The player can summon them manually with Bloody Worm Food or by killing a Perforator Cyst while in The Crimson.

Behavior[edit | edit source]

The Perforator Hive will hover above the player, shooting projectiles and spawning worms as it loses health. The Perforators all behave like typical worms, burrowing through blocks and charging at the player. However, the Perforators will occasionally fire blood clots at the player which inflict the Burning Blood debuff, and each Perforator has different sizes, stats, appearances, and speeds.

When a worm is killed, the remaining worms gain increased movement speed and attack power.

The Perforator Hive[edit | edit source]

  • Shoots blood clot and ichor glob projectiles at the player, which inflict the Burning Blood and Ichor debuffs respectively. The projectiles are shot in two methods:
    • One large volley that flies skywards for a very short time, before falling down and covering a large area.
    • A smaller amount of them shot directly at the player, in a shotgun spread.

The Small Perforator[edit | edit source]

  • Spawns when the Perforator Hive reaches 70% health.
  • This small worm is much faster than the other two and fires blood clots at a higher frequency.

The Medium Perforator[edit | edit source]

  • Spawns when the Perforator Hive reaches 40% health.
  • This medium-sized worm is slower but stronger than the Small Perforator.

The Large Perforator[edit | edit source]

  • Spawns when the Perforator Hive reaches 10% health.
  • This large worm is the most powerful and resilient of the three but is also the slowest.
  • The Perforator Hive is unable to be damaged while the Large Perforator is alive.

In Expert Mode[edit | edit source]

  • The Large Perforator is nearly invulnerable until the other two Perforators are killed.
  • The Perforators' heads (and the Large Perforator's body) inflict the Bleeding debuff on contact.

In Revengeance Mode[edit | edit source]

  • The Perforator Hive shoots more projectiles.
  • The Perforators' heads inflict the Horror debuff on contact.

In Death Mode[edit | edit source]

  • The Hive fires blood clots rapidly, which can travel through tiles.
  • The Perforators are significantly shorter.

Aftermath[edit | edit source]

Tips[edit | edit source]

  • Make sure to not leave the Crimson at all costs as the Perforator Hive will be immune to all damage.
  • Make an arena of platforms high in the air. The worms have rapid horizontal speed but sluggish vertical speed, making them easy to dodge when moving upward. Make sure not to make them so high that you are no longer in the Crimson however.
  • Fighting The Perforators in the Crimson Chasms isn’t recommended, but the low ceiling will break blood clot projectiles, allowing for an easier fight.
    • Building a thick ceiling above your arena can achieve the same results.
  • Once a Perforator worm spawns after the Hive has been damaged enough, it's best to focus only on the worm until it's dead, avoiding damaging the Hive while it is alive. After defeating a worm, attempt to reach where the worm was defeated to pick up its hearts, and resume damaging the Hive. This ensures that the player is not overwhelmed by multiple worms at once and also remains sufficiently healed.
  • The Perforator Hive will consistantly float above the player, so make sure to use weapons with projectiles as getting close is extremely difficult without wings.
  • Using Meteor armor with a Space Gun is useful since the Space Gun uses only 3 Mana per shot and can pierce through the worms.
  • Using Grenades or Beenades is an efficient way to damage the worms.
  • During Hardmode, The Perforators can be fought to get a effective amount of Ichor. This is the only way to get Ichor in a Corrupted world, and can be useful if you want the Everglade Spray, as The Perforators can be fought on a Crimson island.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The Perforators' theme is Blood Coagulant, which was composed by the artists DM DOKURO and SixteenInMono.
    • When the Calamity Music addon mod is disabled and the Calamity base mod enabled, Boss 2 will play instead.
  • The Perforators could be considered the Crimson's version of the Eater of Worlds, while The Hive Mind could be considered the Corruption's version of the Brain of Cthulhu.
  • If the player deals sufficiently high damage in a short time, the Perforator Hive can be killed before its invincibility activates. This causes the worms to move away off-screen and despawn.

Lore[edit | edit source]

Once a single large worm, the Perforators are separate entities that have lost the need for their eyes after evolving to live as a parasite inside the creature called the Brain of Cthulhu. If they lose their host, they burrow as a group to the depths of the crimson and wait for a new host to come across them. Unluckily for you, their new host is you.
